Comfort and Peace John 14: “In my Father’s house are many mansions … I go to
prepare a place for you… I will come again and receive you unto myself that
where I am there ye may be also."
Verse 2-3: “If ye shall ask anything in my name I will do it (this means
anything in accordance with His Will), If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
“I will pray the Father and he shall give you another Comforter that he may
abide with you forever; even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot
receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him; for he dwelleth with
you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to
you."
Verse 14-18: "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father
will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to
your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not
your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
An example of such peace was several years ago when my mother, Jessie
Cain Hilburn, was to have a procedure where they looked down in her throat.
I became frightened, afraid I might lose her, because you never know if one
will survive the anesthesia or not. As I was worried, the Lord spoke to me
in my mind and told me that I didn’t need to worry, that He would take care
of her and everything would be alright, whether she came out of it or
whether she didn’t, He was in control and everything would be alright. I
thought, “Yes, Lord, if You are in control, it will come out alright.” I had
such a peace and a calmness that I could not explain, and He did see fit to
bring her through it safely. What a comfort that was to me at that time.
That same peace is available from Him because He never changes (Hebrews
13:8). Some other scriptures to reflect on "Thou wilt show me the path of
life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are
pleasures for evermore." "God is our refuge and strength, a very present
help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed,
and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea, though the
waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the
swelling thereof.”
Psalms 46: 1-2 "Though we are hearing rumors of wars daily, the earth has
not been cast into the sea, so we will not fear if we have made our calling
and election sure, if we have the Comforter in our hearts. (Refer to
previous issues concerning how to receive the Comforter and Acts 2:38.) When
in recent stress with my sister critically ill, the Lord called my attention
to these scriptures, “Thou will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is
stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever:
for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength…” Though He did not see fit
to heal her, He still gives peace. Isaiah 26:3-4. Other scriptures to
reflect on, Ps 16:11; Ps 23:1-6.
