CAIN

Marandia Owens, Tabatha Herring's daughter, was privileged to travel to Washington DC, with the fifth grade class April 16 - 21, 2001. She got to tour  many places accompanied by her grandmother.

Exciting News from Clint Ward! Clint announced his engagement to Major Susan Toups, a RN in the US Air Force. Susan is stationed in San Antonio at Lackland AFB. They work at the same hospital and attend the same church, but met at a get together of friends! They are to tie the knot in June 30, 2001. Susan is part Indian, from the Houmas tribe in Louisiana, with New Orleans being her home town. Congratulations you two!

Congratulations to newlyweds! Wanda Lee Vallee and Lewis Williams married a few weeks ago and currently reside at 567 Hwy 1229, Atlanta, LA 71404. Lewis is attending Northwestern State University at Natchitoches, getting his degree in education. David has earned his GED and is commencing work in July. He is also planning on enrolling at Northwestern while continuing to work.

Janice and Dennis Patterson, Donald Hilburn and Linda Hilburn recently attended the most impressive Majesty of Spain exhibition in Jackson, MS. It was wonderful to be able to see treasures such as throne chairs, the king's carriage, furniture, famous paintings, tapestries, sculptures, a 55' gilded gondola, porcelain room, paintings of Jesus and the crucifixion, etc., from the kings of Spain who lived in the 1700 and 1800’s. You felt as though you were actually in the Spanish king’s palaces, because several of the rooms in the exhibit were actually duplicated on a smaller scale. The exhibition continues open daily until Sept. 2, 2001, at the Mississippi Arts Pavilion in downtown Jackson. It is well worth your while!

The traditional Easter egg dyeing get together was held on Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Melba and Dutch Dupree's house in Beaumont TX. This event has been a tradition for many years. This year they had 36 members of the family present. Melba boiled 24-dozen eggs to be dyed! Melba says it is kind of like a relaxed family reunion.

The newsletter will soon be hosted on an Internet home page at the following URL: http://james-cain-family.org. Henry Hirasaki still has some tasks to accomplish before the site is up and running, but for those of us with computers the electronic media offers some exciting possibilities. For example, the site could be used for posting family pictures, family tree data, a chat room or forum and of course the newsletter. If you have additional ideas please let us know!

Rebecca Dupree also writes that all three of her boys married within 6 1/2 months of each other!!! Tough year!

Also, Katie Niyaa Hirasaki, was born September 30, 2000. She was born 100 years and 5 days after her great-great grandmother Rosie May Rebecca Cain Ward. Katie and Tippy are pictured right.

Sympathies Extended
To the family of Chester Brewster, Sr., who passed away, May 12, 2001. Chester Brewster, Sr., was the father-in-law of Debbie Belcher Brewster.

Other family deaths from recent years that we may not be aware of include Lou Ella Edgmon Richards, November 1996, her husband Raymond Richards, June 1997, and Helen Lasiter Shearer, December 1997.

Prayer Requests
Please keep Dutch Dupree on your list as he has continued to have problems with pneumonia, etc. Janice Patterson had a fractured hip and subsequently underwent hip replacement surgery. The Lord blessed her so after this — she has done so well. Also, she has now completed radiation therapy on the opposite femur, and has just begun a regimen that encompasses a stronger chemotherapy and a new drug that acts as an anti-body. This treatment continues for several months. The MD says that this new drug and the chemotherapy should knock out the cancer, but please keep praying until the battle is won. Jessie Hilburn has done so well after her surgery, but she has problems with soreness in her hip — labeled bursitis. This has been a drag on her mentally and physically, although all things considered she has done remarkably well for her age and overall condition. Please continue to lift her up to the Lord. Phil Ward continues to need prayer, as does Karen Hirasaki after undergoing major surgery and chemotherapy ahead.
Inspirational
Jesus came to meet every need of mankind (Isaiah 53: 4-5; Isaiah 61:1-3). Praise causes him to come down and live where the praiser is. If you have a problem that is too big for God, magnify the Lord until He becomes bigger than the problem, because there is no problem too big for God to handle. Then give Him the problem and refuse to let circumstances dictate to you. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us (Eph. 3:20). Who can praise (Psalms 148)? When to praise (Psalms 34:10; Hebrews 13:15). How to praise (Psalms 150). Why praise (Psalms 147:1; Psalms 145:1-3)?
