A Favorite Spring
Memory—Linda Hilburn |
Mom (Jessie) used to
take Janice and I on a walk through the woods hunting wild violets along the
small stream banks behind our house each Spring. It was so much fun to find
and pick the violets. We would also find little 4 petal daisies that are
bluish lavender in color and the rooster heads (a smaller type of violet).
We also looked for May Apples. They usually grow in groups on little knolls
and have umbrella tops.
We enjoyed the dogwood in our woods and even had a
wild pink dogwood. One of the places along the stream that we picked violets
was named Yahoo Hole by Jon Barker. Ask Jon and Donny for more information
about how that name came about.
As you know the Spring is the time for bees to make
honey. It seems that Jon Barker was curious to know if bees could made honey
out of a cat, so he proceeded to find out. Ask him about the whole story on
that—Jon could you refresh our memory on this? |
Prayer Requests |
Janice Hilburn
Patterson. She had recurrence of bone cancer in April, 2000. Since then she
has a lot of prayer, radiation and chemotherapy, and she is feeling much
better. The last report was questionable though as the doctor could not tell
her if she was healing. She is to wait 2 months to have the tests run again,
while taking a different type of oral cancer medicine. Thank you all so much
who have prayed for her, but please continue to remember her in your
prayers. “Dutch”
Dupree. Dutch is Melba Ward Dupree’s husband. He has been very ill with lung
and heart problems as well as diabetes. Please continue to remember him and
Melba and Margaret (Babe) his support team.
Phil Ward. Phil is May
Cain Ward’s son (formerly known as Junior to many of us). He has Parkinsons’
and is doing fair, but needs your prayers.
Feel free to send in
prayer requests. |

Handy Tips You Can
Use |
FIRE
ANT TREATMENT Using
a Q-Tip, dip in a purex bottle. Dab a small amount of purex on the ant bite.
Let stay there for approximately 30 seconds to a minute. Dab dry. This takes
the poison of the sting out and stops the burning. WARNING: Be extremely
careful with purex. It will eat your skin.
PACKING TIP
Need a good use for all
of the Wal-Mart and plastic grocery bags? If you have packages to mail,
these make very good packing with very little weight. |
Gardener’s Corner |
Potatoes and English Peas
need to be planted by February 14 in North Louisiana, weather and ground
conditions permitting. Turnip and Mustard Greens were also planted then.
Corn can be planted
in March.
Purple hull peas, squash,
watermelons, onions, carrots, beets, radishes, can be planted in April.
Tomatoes can be planted
after danger of frost is over or before if covered when it frosts. |
Inspirational |
Nobody has a problem that
God cannot solve. When life gets out of control and you cannot do anything
about it, put your faith and trust in God.
Faith is born in the
midst of adversity and is exercised when you put your trust in Him. You
cannot track God but you can trust Him.
Trust in the Lord with
all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways
acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3, 5-6
Ask, and it shall be
given you; seek, and you shall find; knock ,and it shall be opened unto you.
For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth ;and to
him that knocketh, it shall be opened. Matthew 7:7-8 |
