Share Favorite Family Recipes--Ada Ester Cain Barker’s Chocolate Pie

1 cup sugar

8 level tablespoons flour (I use a little more because I hate to stir a long time)

Dash of salt

3 egg yolks

3 ozs. Cocoa or 2 sqs. Chocolate

3 cups milk (half Pet milk)

1 tsp. vanilla

Small lump butter

Mix sugar, flour, salt and cocoa and stir enough milk to make a paste. Add egg yolks and rest of milk stirring until mixed well. Cook and stir in double boiler until thick. When thick, add butter and vanilla. Pour into baked pie shell.

Meringue

3 to 4 egg whites

A little cream of tarter (about ¼ tsp.)

6 Tbs. Sugar

Beat until stiff, and add 1 tsp. Vanilla

Bake at 350 till golden (about 12 minutes)
