In the last issue we published an update from Theresa Peoples
about their recent relocation, but did not have room for the whole update. Here
is the rest of the story: Greetings from the South, where there's sweet tea in
restaurants and Southern style gospel singing and worship. We aren't "Yankees"
any longer. I could say that we've been delivered but we liked PA, and we'll
miss things and friends from PA. As of 6/17/02, we moved south of the
Mason-Dixon line to southern Maryland. Tom accepted a new position where he'll
be commuting to "The District" on a daily basis. Tom drives his car 6.7 miles to
catch the bus which he rides for about 1 hour. We live in Lexington Park, which
is about 60 or so miles southeast of DC. We are near the Naval Air Station Test
Facility commonly known as Pax River; also nearby are the Patuxent, Chesapeake &
Potomac Rivers. According, to Census records for year 2000, the population in
Lexington Park was 11,021. Definitely, has the feeling of Small-town USA, which
is important to us. We like living near big cities and where there are
historical things to see and do, but prefer the small town atmosphere.
There is an Amish influence here, so
fresh fruits and vegetables abound. As this is being written, I have almost 6
lbs. of green beans cooling in the sink waiting to be packaged and put into the
freezer. Our church is about 7 minutes away from our house and all other places
of business that we'd frequent are very close by.
When we were considering the move
from PA to MD, we put forth a lot of prayers for direction and guidance. There
were a lot of things that needed to happen for this move to work out for our
benefit. Every prayer that we prayed and some that we didn't think to pray,
Jesus answered for us to our benefit. When we put our house on the market in PA,
it sold in 6-days to the first people that came to see it for our asking price.
When we went to MD on our “house hunting trip,” we had one week to find a house
to bid on and be accepted. The very first day we were here, a tornado came
through La Plata MD, which was one of the places that we were considering
living. We had been in La Plata that afternoon prior to the tornado but had gone
south to see some other developments. My thoughts after learning of the tornado
were "Ok, I can take a hint that we aren't supposed to live in La Plata." We saw
the house that we're buying on that first day. It was in the construction
process and would be finished just in time. Ain't God good!!! I haven't worried
one time after praying whether God would answer or how he'd answer. I'm not
going to start worrying now that I'm looking for a job, either. God knew that I
wouldn't be able to transfer with Quest Diagnostics and he's been preparing the
right job for me with the particulars that I want/need. I believe that He'll
clue me in when it's time.
Tom was gracious and allowed me to go and visit my family for
the summer after we got the house livable for him. I had a blast with 'the
folks' and 'the dogs'. Now that I'm back, I'll be working on fine-tuning the
house and putting fruits and veggies away for the winter. So come for a visit
and we'll leave the light on for you.
